When you are invited to CODS at Crediton for their annual concert you know you’re in for a treat.

They did not disappoint!  First you get a treat of a meal and  following the theme of the concert called “The Best of  British” it was sausage & mash followed by apple pie and all

very tasty indeed. All followed by the icing on the cake, metaphorically speaking! The concert opened with “Zadock the Priest” splendid  rendition leading to a programme packed with goodies

We were then treated to a medley of the “Best of Bond” that  was outstanding, with harmonies galore used to great effect.

The soloists then came to the fore in “One day I’ll fly away “Linden Lea” and “Total Eclipse of the Heart” all sung well, with plenty of light and shade

“Mull of Kintyre” was almost a showstopper for me it was sung well with real feeling and harmonised beautifully the sopranos did especially well “Swansea Town “good clear diction and “Sky Boat Song” brought back memories! “Mr Rock& Roll was sung with great confidence as was “Son of a Preacher man” but  needed the microphone nearer to her,” Heart of Stone” again sung with great conviction as a duet these two singers are naturals! Another showstopper!

That was the first half! There was so much packed into this  programme!

“Touch of Sky “I must mention the soloist was only 14  years old as has a promising future! Great stuff. “Life On Mars” was rather ambitious but the  audience loved it!” “Anyone who had a Heart” was superbly sung, the soloist pitched it just right!

“As if we never said Goodbye” was sung with feeling and yet another showstopper!

Then it was the turn of the audience to get their voices going With renditions from good old Last Night of the Proms“Jerusalem” “Rule Britannia” “I vow to thee my Country”  “Land of Hope and Glory” and “We’ll Meet Again”

Truly British songs and the audience lapped it up, especiallyas the death of the Queen, the forthcoming funeral and the Proclamation of our new King was so current and in all our  minds

The chorus then went onto sing “Fields of Gold” “Run” & “Your Song “with great arrangements and super   harmonies!

“Lady in Red “was sung wonderfully well and the soloist Has such a strong & great voice, something we have grown to expect from him! Sung so well! “Fix You” “Mr Blue Sky” and a Beatles Selection “Ticket to Ride” Always a popular choice with the audience who can’t seem to help singing along.

Then a touch of comedy with “I would walk 500 miles” The duo had it just right, with good singing voices as well as comedic talents!

“The Joker and the Queen “was very good also with superb guitar playing!Followed by “New Shoes” Then it was time for “Bohemian Rhapsody” again a show-stopper complete with superb guitar playing, what a treat this was! And then the last two songs “I’ll tell MA “Followed by“Sing” appropriate to finish with! And what a concert for Mike Canning to bow out with, to make way for a younger person in Nikki Wilkes to take up the baton.

To Mike who is NOT retiring from CODS and will doubtless continue to entertain us brilliantly in all the shows that thisbusy society put on, my heartfelt thanks And congratulations to all those concerned in what was a great evening of great music, oh and super food and company!
