The Addams Family

The Addams Family is such a fun show with great characters, catchy tunes, and a witty script and NOMADS certainly gave us a very entertaining night. 

This production was very well cast, and the directors had clearly worked with the principals and ensemble to produce outstanding characterisations, all of which were clearly recognisable and very well developed. The quality of the acting was excellent, with good pace and the directors ensured that the cast brought out all the humour and poignancy of the script. There was good movement around the stage and great use of the impressive set pieces, staircase and raised section with no blocking. Quite an achievement with so many on stage. 

Each of the musical numbers had been well developed and this accomplished cast gave some standout performances. The choreography was original and really added to the humour and performance. The routines were stylised and very effective, and the cast had been well trained performing with energy and enthusiasm. All the cast were in character in the dances and the ancestors had not only mastered the dance routines but maintained their ghostly physicality and gestures as they danced.  

The set was very impressive with a sweeping gothic staircase complete with marble pillars and ‘altar’ candles. There was a high stage area with a balcony and entrance to the bedrooms with heavy drapes which the directors used very effectively. Lighting and sound contributed well to the spooky theme with some good effects. The costume team had done a great job to provide the characters with the iconic costumes that are synonymous with the Addams Family.

Altogether, this was an excellent production and another one to for the group be very proud of. Well, done to all of the cast and production team!
