In this performance we were transported into the kooky upside down world of the Addams family. Gomez and Morticia carry us along throughout the story. Daughter Wednesday falls in love with Lucas, a normal boy from a respectable family. Pugsley Addams doesn’t want his sister to get married and leave him. Lucas’s parents Alice and Mal come to dinner to meet the family including Uncle Fester, Grandma Addams and Lurch the butler. In one evening, secrets are disclosed and relationships tested.
This show was lively and entertaining. The scenery was great with a good use of levels with the upstairs section. They were scene changers, props movers who generally provided the extra support needed to make the show run smoothly. Technically lighting and sound were spot on, and I loved the projections on the backdrop. The costumes and makeup were excellent with great attention to detail with Wednesday’s plaits, Morticia’s long hair and Fester’s bald head. The audience were delighted with a plethora of songs. We enjoyed Fester singing and playing his guitar in “Fester’s Manifesto” and “The moon and me”. Morticia sang “Secrets” very well and had a good voice. Wednesday gave a strong performance and sang well. Lucas song was good but the choreography was a bit chaotic at times. Maybe there were too many dancers in a small area of the stage. .“Full Disclosure” was very entertaining from comedy to singing and dancing and revelations being revealed.
There are too many songs in this show to mention them all but they were all performed well with great choreography.Gomez and Morticia were the stars of the show, they complemented each other and worked well together. These two gave good performances throughout, diction was clear and demeanour on stage was good. Wednesday was excellent, with just the right amount of teenage defiance with a good dose of beguilement. Lucas was good as the star-stuck lover and prospective husband. There was a charmingly barmy Uncle Fester. We had a very confident performance from Pugsley, being seemingly delighted at being tortured by his sister. There was a delightfully dotty as Grandma. The actor was every inch the robotic zombie of a butler, Lurch. The Ancestors and dancers were great and added greatly to the performance. In my view, one the best performances of the evening came fromAlice Beineke – a timid mouse who, after mistakenly drinking a potion, bursts out of her shell and becomes the woman she always wanted to be.Going from the demure neglected housewife to utterly liberated and dancing on the tables. Mal Beineke, was suitably respectable, repressed and outraged until he finally releases his inner self. Well done to all the cast and crew for a wonderful performance. Thank you so much for inviting me and I look forward to your next
