Mad Kids never disappoint, the audience just geared up for a real treat, and we got it!
The set was good with tomb stones on the floor of the auditorium that helped get the atmosphere going!
The Chorus were dressed in pale pinks etc and with white and grey makeup really looked like the walking dead! The set changes were seamless, with trees being brought on the stage with ease. The groupings of the chorus were very effective, and I noticed that they all were always acting to the full which for such a young cast showed great maturity. The singing was very good with everyone in tune! They were using recorded music and they all listened and got their timing perfectly
Gomez gave a great performance and kept his accent up the whole way through, even in his singing which can be difficult just excellent.
Morticia followed suit and with Gomez made a super couple, again a lovely singing voice and she looked every inch the part
Wednesday made the role her own, she was outstanding.
Pugsley gave a superb performance it was faultless his facial expressions were brilliant and when he was being “tortured” displayed some very believable reactions, not to mention those screams!
Uncle Fester did very well indeed, with ethereal movement, delivering the quirky dialogue with humour and clarity and greatly amusing the audience, the song “In Love with the Moon” was delivered beautifully with just the right hint of pathos.
Grandma, what a transformation! make up and her hair were first class and she got into the character well, she really looked and acted the part with great conviction
Lucas did well with a good American accent to boot! Lurch was suitably creepy and performed his part confidently.
Alice got it just right and did not go over the top when she got tipsy as can so often happen and Mal the initially strait-laced father who re-discovered his youthful self in the end did well!
It was really nice to see MAD Kids back on stage again, after what for young people, was a big gap. A very young cast, many of whom had little stage experience performed amazingly in a very hot hall with a disappointingly small audience (maybe the heatwave?)
Just a slight hiccup that I must mention and that is, when you have throat mics, remember they are still switched-on backstage and a spontaneous use of a 4-letter word, when you miss your cue is not acceptable, even though the children in the audience found it hilarious. A small issue and all part of the learning curve, which didn’t detract from a great production. Congratulations all round. Roll on the next production!
Well done to the Director Clair Tapper, Producer Jill Clarke along with great choreography from Jo Kelly, Stage crew& scenery
