This show has been extremely popular with amateur companies and done well it is an excellent piece of musical theatre, with good songs and great storyline. Swansea AOS did this show proud and themselves proud in was an outstanding production.
The set was great and the choreography of its movement around the stage by the cast was quite brilliant. The costumes were amazing and added so much to the overall value of the production. The lighting was perfect and gave huge amounts of ambience to each scene.
The ensemble were excellent and moved and sang exceptionally well in what is a comparatively small space for a large company. Their focus was impeccable and on point at all times.
The principals were well-cast with a great performance of Gomez by Keith Ivett, a feisty and comedic performance of Grandma by Miranda Millar, and a suitably tacet (apart from the occasional ‘grunt’) and measured performance of Lurch by Ewan Forrest until the last scene when we were treated to a fine developing baritone voice from this young performer.
The Beineke family were great with Tim Pottinger giving a fine performance as Mal, Sean Kwok as a suitably naïve and ‘loved-up’ Lucas and Karen Webb was an absolutely outstanding Alice, with a good voice and fabulous comedy.
I was delighted by the performance of Connor Barry as Pugsley who had a great voice and lovely stage presence and the vocally outstanding performance of Wednesday by Jaimee Fraser-Ivett who gave spine-tingling renditions of all her songs. The performances of the night for me were given by Leah Collett as the sultry, sexy, severe and certainly for Gomez salacious Morticia, demonstrating a very fine voice and perfect characterisation and by Simon Lloyd-Jones who was a brilliant Fester. From the voice to the mannerisms, great vocals and fabulous humour, Simon gave us an exceptional performance.
Many thanks to the entire company, both those on stage and those off stage who worked equally as hard to bring this production together.
