Loughton Amateur Drama Society (LADS) have a reputation for producing challenging plays and performances of a very high quality. The Actress enhanced their reputation and LADS gave another excellent play.

The Actress takes the audience back stage on the night of the farewell performance of the famous Lydia Martin. A performance of ‘The Cherry Orchard’ which is interspersed into the play. It provides some good characters and led by Cathy Naylor as Lydia the company were on the top of their game. We hear of the vulnerability of The Actress and the personal sacrifices that had to be made to the achieve her success.

The play is sub-titled as a comedy and certainly has some funny lines, but it also has poignancy and reflective thoughts which gives the audience more than just a good laugh
