Based on John Buchan's novel and the highly regarded Hitchcock film version, The 39 Steps is adapted by Patrick Barlow. Ulli Lukas you took a brave step to direct Edenbridge Players latest venture, and what a step it was, directed ingeniously and the cast you chose did you proud. This wonderfully inventive and gripping comedy thriller features seven fearless actors, playing 30 odd roles in 33 scenes. Gosh !!…About 90 minutes of fast-paced fun and thrilling action.

Set design by Stewart Currie and Steve Lukas was so impressive with clever use of a door, window, and multi-useable pieces of set: very clever indeed. The lighting and sound were on cue and added to the fun of this terrific piece of theatre. So let's first give the cast a mighty pat on the back, or perhaps a firm shake of the hand. That's Darren Thomas, the one actor who plays the same person throughout, Richard Hannay, who does it oh so well. Then there’s Martin Beaman and Jesse Cooper giving us brilliant comedy throughout, their transitions and characters were tremendous. Four competent actresses in Wendy Wilson, Rosie Newman Bekkelund, Doreen Clark and Julia Bennett played the other five ladies' parts. While I was standing outside in the interval, I heard a lady say “I wasn’t expecting that, what a pleasant surprise it's brilliant” - how right she was. Ulli and your team, a good job done.Thank you for making me so welcome, as always on my visits to Edenbridge Players
