You can always guarantee on seeing a good show when visiting Thurcroft Musical Theatre Group and this year it was no exception, from start to finish the show had pace and all the sections moved very quickly from one to the other.
Opening the show we were treated to a Metro Goldwyn Meyer selection with the full company which everyone in the audience thoroughly enjoyed.
The second selection was a combination of Sister Act and The Sound of Music which included some excellent singing from mainly the female members of the company including How I Got the Calling and Climb Every Mountain both of which were delivered in style. Also from Sister Act was a beautiful rendition of The Life I Never Had by Emma Hatton followed by Sue Banks singing Someone Like You and I am sure you could have heard a pin drop whilst she was singing, it was lovely.
Closing the first half the full company gave a selection of music from then hit musical Miss Saigon, all of the numbers were sung with passion especially Bui Doi which was delivered by the full company led by Stuart Roxburgh, this was outstanding.
After being treat to a hearty supper of pie and peas the second half opened with numbers from The Addams Family, again all the numbers were delivered well and enjoyed by the audience.
The Crossword Sketch was very funny and well delivered by Joe and Sue Banks.
Sue Bowskill entertained us with a beautiful rendition of Never Say Goodbye from Sunset Boulevard which the audience loved.
Other memorable selections were The Jersey Boys with the full company,
Peter Cahill and Daniel Comer gave us an excellent sketch called Phone Me about a Granddad who had bought his second mobile phone, this had the audience rolling in the aisles it was so good and extremely well written and delivered by both Peter and Daniel.
Masquerade from The Phantom of the Opera and a mixture of songs from Barnum and The Greatest Showman. Another highlight was the title number from The Phantom of the Opera by Stuart Roxburgh and Katy Marsh, this was superb.
The whole show was backed by an excellent combo who produced a great sound, however I have to say they did tend to be a little too loud in some sections which resulted in the words of some of the songs not being heard too well, this comment was also heard from some of our fellow audience members. This was a pity because had the music been turned down a little it would have resulted in a fantastic show.
All this being said the end result was excellent and proved to be a good showcase for the talent of Thurcroft MTG.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this production.
