Adapted for the stage by the director Rebecca Beard and Mike Leach this visit to Terry Pratchett’s Disc World centred on the zany lives of Susan Sto-Helit, the granddaughter of death and Imp y Celyn a travelling bard. If you are unaware of  the Disc World phenomenon you would be totally lost on the plot in the first half of this theatrical craziness but by Act 2 everything begins to come a little clearer (having seen numerous Disc World creations, personally this wasn’t a problem for me!).
The stage was simply set as a black box with projections above the proscenium; recorded musical interludes linked the scenes quite skilfully. The scene changes needed more speed to keep the audience engaged although there were a number of nicely drawn characters and some inventive creations. As a new piece of theatre there was potential here but a few workshop sessions and some skilful script development would help develop the piece into a more audience engaging piece of Disc World, because of its highly detailed and linked characters within the full series as noted earlier it can meander too far away from general viewing moving simply to appeal to the Pratchett fan base. It is great to take risks and Wellington are doing this more and more and this is something to be proud of ... keep pushing those boundaries
