PREVIEW REPORT -
Strip away the lights. Strip away the sound effects. Ditch the costumes and forget the makeup. When it’s all gone, it’s simply the players, the music and, in this case one or two very privileged audience members, enjoying a preview.
As a NODA representative its always a pleasure to get to every show in the district at the end of all the hard work. But, unable to get to the show – I had the once in a blue moon privilege to attend a final rehearsal of the The Taunton Scout and Guides Gang Show.
And what a treat!
With a cast of more than 70 young performers, this was is going to be a show to remember. I walked into a section of the show called the Wild, wild west – as we walked toward the hall, the music began to swell and we sat down to some absolutely stunning vocals with flawless and gorgeous harmonies.
This was a show at a point which can be a time of considerable tension!! Missing several members of the cast owing to the rather extended intervention of winter-bugs that has swept the region.
Yet, the energy, joy and ebullience in the room was palpable and inspiring. Every person on the stage was on step, on beat and bouncing through the show like a first night – every face was smiling and the numbers were uplifting, delicious and full of fun.
This is a very talented group of young people who have clearly worked very hard indeed, aided and abetted by the incredible production team all of whom were putting everything into getting this show ready.
The show itself is full of creative and entertaining sections including Haul Away a section celebrating the best of Shanty singing and Colour the World which has you laughing and mopping your eyes as they pull your heartstrings with their incredible attention to detail (I can’t tell you any more without giving it away)
Suffice to say, if you don’t have your tickets – GO and get them!!
It’s easy to be swept away by the lights and glitz of a finished show but we were thoroughly enchanted by the unplugged and unadorned version – this will be a smash!!
I am very much looking forward to seeing this talented, energetic group again in the near future –
Break a leg, guys!!
