Redlynch  Players is only a relatively small group playing in the local village hall but they always perform productions of a very high standard .

“Talking Heads”  by Alan Bennett  is a collection of  eight monologues, all about thirty minutes duration, originally written  for  BBC Television in 1988

There were three of the monologues in this production.  The first was “Her Big Chance”  Gina Hodsman  playing Lesley, an aspiring actress, who, after a series of unpromising extra roles on television, finds what she believes to be her big break.  .Ali Silver played Susan in “Bed Among The Lentils” an Alcoholic vicars wife who is having an affair with the owner of the off licence. And finally Sarah Newman played Miss Ruddock in “ A Lady of Letters”  a lonely spinster who writes letters of compliant to everybody to such an extent she is given a prison sentence..

I felt that each of the actors each gave a virtually faultless, outstanding performance. I was enthralled by each monologue and laughed out loud in many places. Their delivery and timing was superb , I was very impressed that several times they stopped and allowed the audience laughter to die down before continuing.

Between the second two monologues Desmond Longfield read a selection of extracts from Alan Bennetts Dairies, which were both enlightening and amusing, They were very well  delivered with a hint of a Yorkshire accent..

The direction throughout was  perfect. and the very simple set with projected back cloth  looked very effective

Another excellent evening of entertainment, My Congratulations to the four  excellent performers and to all concerned and I must mention the bar staff who were very proud of their new card reader, so we did not need cash to purchase refreshments !
