This was a wonderful feel good show adapted from the film that was written in the early 1960s for Cliff Richard. Although the script is a bit on the thin side, this was a wonderful and bright toe-tapping musical: a show case of Cliff Richard’s classic 60’s hits. Thankfully, the leading roles did not try to be tribute acts, and developed their own interpretation of the characters to great success. They were all versatile dancers, excellent vocalists and much of the close harmony work was outstanding. After a shaky opening number the sound balance was faultless, the band well controlled, and at times it could have been “The Shadows” in the orchestra pit. I do, however, wonder if the production could have been adapted better to fit the pavilion stage. There did seem to be a lot of scene changes which affected the flow of the show, and at times the stage looked very sparse, and the bus was very disappointing.
