The action takes place in 1954 in the BBC studios – the cast are assembled for a drama presented as a radio play, performed live – with the cast working like radio actors in front of microphones and two members of the company creating live sound effects. Following the “murder” the performers mingle with the audience and answer their questions, audience members will have to vote on who they think is the murderer, all done while licking their fingers and tucking into a finger buffet. What a splendid way to spend a Friday evening.Edenbridge Players production of ‘Sudden Death at Thorrnbury Manor’ kept us on our toes, all wondering who the killer of Richard Maltravers is.This piece of clever theatre certainly keeps us concentrating all the way through the first half, knowing we had to name the killer. Andrew Robinson directed this piece of clever theatre farce, and all his cast certainly portrayed their characters well. Carol Ore (Delores Howell) certainly gave us a BBC voice of the 50s,(I remember it well).I felt as if I was being taken back to the days of radio plays, my mother used to listen to. Andrew, you got me reminiscing of those days, so that’s how good this play was directed. Well done. A cast of nine along with director Andrew took on their roles and gave good characterisation’s all the way through the piece. Those being Andrew Robinson, Caroline Newman, Beth Paice, Charlie Edelsten, Julia Bennett, Leslie Hawkins Wendy Wilson and Steve Jones. The three gentlemen on the sound effects, Andrew Dore, Jeremy Ledger were crucial to this play Together with the lighting man, Ollie Locket, they were so on time and so affective. The set design by Andrew Dore, was very solid and depicted a radio studio to a T. One good thing for the cast, was you never got those words we all hate, “Books down” by.Edenbridge Players, you gave us a great evening’s entertainment, and a finger buffet to boot. Thank you so much.
