Using the Art Centre in traverse created the ideal setting for this feel good piece about a group of Tap Dancing hopefuls. With the audience being the mirror the opening scene was strongly portrayed and each character defined their personality. Timing is essential in a piece like this and this was on whole spot on throughout. Geoffrey showing great comedy not only with his dialogue but also his face along with Maxine and Sylvia who caused much laughter. Mavis was nicely played and she ‘taught’ her pupils very well, the choreography progress was beautifully executed and how lucky is Wellington to have a cast full of competent tappers so that the Finale was the true highlight that it should be. A special mention for sweet Lynne who came into the show two weeks before curtain up but no one would have known, a true trooper. Costume changes through time were handled well and numerous leotards and tight combo’s were quite hysterical at times but especially Vera’s silver unitard…. Lighting and sound were handled with care in the small space and visually it worked extremely well. The Wellington Theatre Company continues to present good quality work and gives Wellington audiences a treat… Congratulations everyone.
