This is an excellently written and very funny play about a group of nine rather bored housewives and one man, who meet weekly in the Church Hall for a tap dancing class, led by a very enthusiastic ex professional dancer. As lessons progress, the group improves and is invited to appear in a local charity show, with all the nerves, tantrums and excitement that involves.
The play was very well cast, and performed; each member being their own completely different character, each bringing their own personal problems to the class. The downtrodden housewife, the ‘couldn’t care less’, the cyclist, the very self-conscious black lady and the over confident snobby housewife with her designer leotards, accessories and attitude to match all led by their teacher very ably accompanied by their ever suffering pianist. The way the cast visibly improved, their self confidence and tapping, throughout the show was fully evident and the audience were well entertained by their final dance routine. The costumes were very cleverly thought out as was the set design which very simply turned from a Church Hall into a performance stage.
This was a very enjoyable evening – I heard many, well deserved, praising remarks from the exiting audience - well done everyone.
