One of the most poignant plays ever written was impressively staged by R.A.T.S. in October by the outstanding playright Robert Harling with a unique and refreshing new approach. This company with staunch support from a loyal audience is a jewel in the theatre world and thank you for your warmest welcome.
The close team of actors worked extremely well together, getting the story across with a brightness seldom achieved with this play. After all, it is a play which is centred on the supportive relationships of these women, which was way beyond being customers in a salon. The suffering incurred was paced well and the sunny personality of the tragic Shelby, a beautiful performance by Elin Haf Edwards ever positive which over came the sadness of her demise so the play was never heavy or dark. Every actor played their part well, linking in to the action with dramatic light and shade. Tracey Colman as Truvy was a force on stage holding the action together and a touching performance by Helen Harries as M’Lynn and Leanne Algeo as Annelle her Bible devotion was very well played. Wealthy first lady of the town Clairee was given just the right touch by Carole Screen and the belligerent Ouiser Trish Gould. Each member of this cast worked seamlessly we could feel the intense empathy. Thought provoking and so real. Lucy Chiplin S.M. worked magic with the set Congratulations Gemma Durham and Jodi Bennett on your inspirational Directing debut for RATS.
