Starshine was one of two productions being performed by the Society weekly from the end of July until the end of September, the other show being “In the Summertime”. Starshine had a bit of everything that summer seaside shows are about and it is difficult to single anything out as it was all to a high standard. We had good vocals, a comedian/compere who judged the mood well, a talented young magician, a “Stars in their Eyes” section and a funny Fanny Craddock sketch – even a dog! The musical numbers were from a wide range of shows such as Aspects of Love, Chicago, Mamma Mia, Glee and Spamalot and also included pop songs made famous by The Monkees, Meat Loaf, Buddy Holly and Adele. The set was very simple and well used and the piano and drums accompaniment, along with some sound tracks, was just right, as were the colourful costumes. The full house thoroughly enjoyed the evening and, of course, that was not only as a result of the show’s content but also to the enthusiasm of the smiling cast which had a good mix of younger performers and more experienced people. Very good.
