We often hear that the days of good old variety shows were long gone – but they’re not in Bridlington!  Starshine had a bit of everything: song, dance (well a very good Stripper routine by the Spotlight Cleaners!), laughter, magic (Jamie McKeller), a novelty act (Beat Boxing by Daniel Richmond) a dog etc., etc.

The show was well held together by Compere Mike Hammond who also played the Freddie Frinton role in the wonderful Dinner for One sketch which opened the second half.  It’s not easy and he handled it very well with good support from Pat Hughes.

The varied styles of vocals were pretty good throughout with plenty for the chorus and several slots for the swing quartet of Helen Nichols, Carol Daniel, David Cox and Peter Daniel.  I should also mention nice solos from Eric Hart, Jodie Hughes, Pat Hughes and Pauline Woodcock along with Pauline Pope performing another very funny Fanny Craddock sketch with Alfie the dog playing Johnny!

The atmosphere in the audience made me feel that we were all friends and credit should go to the cast, musicians, technical and stage crew, production team and all the society’s theatre staff for building this.
