This well-put together production was absolutely full of personality. During the play, the character ‘Terry’ argues that the only place where real acting happens is on the stage (rather than on the silver screen), and this talented company demonstrated in spades what good stage acting looks like. Everyone should be commended for their good pacey dialogue; smart one-liners were delivered well and never thrown away, and above all the cast managed to create a genuine sense of camaraderie amongst the boarding house inhabitants. All of the performances were beautifully realised, and the set design conjured a very real sense of place, evoking the Depression-era setting in a convincing way with good attention to detail and well-chosen furnishings. It had an immersive feel and you really did believe that when characters exited off to the side or ‘up the stairs’ that other rooms existed for them to go to. A very polished production.
