With the title “Music Loved, Music Remembered” this concert certainly brought back to me many happy memories of family gatherings, with everyone singing in front room of my childhood home as my mother played the piano. There were only two of songs in concert that I had never heard before and several times throughout the evening I was given a nudge from my wife to stop me singing along. Songs from “No No Nannette” “Bless the Bride”, “Merry Widow” and a selection from Ivor Novello were all featured, together with several patriotic numbers and a Music Hall Sing-song. Unfortunately the shortage of male members in the choir, left the six men sounding very exposed and the MD had to work hard, to keep them together with the ladies.

As always there was a nice selection of solo numbers and as usual Baird linked it altogether with his little stories and antidotes’. There were two outstanding songs of the evening and they were both sung by soprano Dianne Tompkins “I Can Give You the Starlight “and “Vilia.

A very pleasant evening with Lovely Music and Lovely Memories.
