Spamalot the Musical is based on the film of Monty Python And The Holy Grail. Book & Lyrics by Eric Idle and music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle.

Director Wayne Reddin has done a great job with his first full musical, he has a great cast for this production, its a fun show, with lots of great comedy, one liners, political puns and songs. The main roles are great but it also gives the cast lots of smaller cameo roles. There is a lot of attention to detail and you can tell the cast are enjoying every minute. The story comes over very well. Lighting, sound and the sets are great. The costumes are very good.

The show starts with announcements from a projection of God, and then the fun begins, the opening song Finland starts and it's not until the end they realise it should have been about England.

The story starts with the arrival of King Arthur, superbly played by Mike Pavitt, he commands the stage, has a great singing voice, and is every part the King, his facial expressions and being increasingly exasperated as he goes round trying to find his Knights to go on his quest are just great.

Patsy, the Kings right hand man, is played by George Tate, he's always there following the King around with coconuts in hand sounding like the horses hooves, carrying his backpack which becomes even funnier when the King sings 'I'm All Alone'. He has a great charm about him.

Dan Farrell’s Sir Robin, was great in the part and I really liked the Brave Sir Robin songs. Antony Morrison has a real deadpan comic delivery as Dennis Galahad - he was great to watch. Russell Dutton plays Sir Bedevere and Chris Pearce takes the role of Lancelot. There is a great scene when they go to rescue Richard Peaty as the camp Prince Herbert.

I really liked Sophie Barnard as the divaish Lady of the Lake, she has a great voice just right for part, great facial expressions and comic timing. I loved her costumes.

Amy Wardle as Musical Director has worked well with the cast and the singing is strong, Lex Harrison has also worked well with the cast with effective choreography routines.

At the end of the evening, the cast invited the audience to join in a reprise of the much-loved ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’, which we all did happily.

Great show well done everyone.
