Spamalot is based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, writtern by Eric Idle, and music by Eric Idle and Jon Du Prez. It's great fun for any company to do and you could tell Waterside were loving every minute, the show came across so well to the audience. Waterside are 50 years old this year and this was a great show choice.
Directors Chris Stanway and Christobel Thomas have a great cast with this production. Musical Director Rosemary Butler has worked well with the singing, and Viki Sarker has some nice Choreography.
King Arthur played by Mike Pavitt suited the role as King, with great stage presence. Christopher Wortley played his page Patsy, there were some great comedy moments between them. The Lady of the Lake played by Nicola Duncombe was very good and I loved her Diva number in Act 2.
King Arthur is on a quest to find Knight's for the round table. Dennis Galahad was Antony Morrison, Sir Lancelot was Dean Attard, Sir Bedevere was Ross Burton and Sir Robin was played by Dale Russell. Each are very good and all have their time to shine. David Putley was also very good as Prince Herbert, and Denis Cameron played his father.
The great thing about this show is there are lots of cameo parts for the whole company, lots of good songs and colourful costumes, and the audience get to sing-a-long to "Always look on the Bright Side of Life" at the end.
Sound and lighting worked well, the set was good and was easy to move, and looked very effective, a lot of attention to detail and thought had been put into the show. Well done to you all.
