The Director’s Notes in the Spamalot programme said that he is not a “die hard Monty Python fan” and nor am I however that doesn’t mean that the show can’t be enjoyed.  In fact this was an hilarious evening and a very good production.

I’ve seen the show once before, a professional production, and this version was equally as good.  It’s a small cast and they all need to work extremely hard, in many cases taking on several roles, and there wasn’t really a weak link.

Jonathan Jeeves was a powerful King Arthur and delivered his lines and songs very clearly.  Ivan Hall was excellent as Patsy - the character doesn’t stop. I loved the popular ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’ and ‘I’m All Alone’ performed with Arthur and the Ensemble.

Jordan Butler made a fine Not Dead Fred as well as Prince Herbert and there was another extremely commendable performance from Jack Buck as Sir Robin.  His ‘Star Song’ was fun although perhaps he could have moved around a bit less than he did.

Suzy Corrigan played the Lady of the Lake and she put her all into her performance throughout although maybe she didn’t give herself much room to manoeuvre in ‘Diva’s Lament’.  The duet ‘The Song That Goes Like This’ with Sir Galahad (Ken James) was very funny especially when the Whitby sea fret invaded their boat early in the number!

In fairness, everyone in the cast probably deserves a mention as it seemed to be a real team effort which they all enjoyed and there was plenty for them all to do.  The choreographed routines were enjoyable and I liked the clear diction in many of the songs.  If anything however, at times the band was a bit loud.

The costumes were good and in keeping and the set was great and well worked.

The performance we saw deserved a larger audience but it was quite clear that everyone enjoyed the show and will be talking about it for some time.

A cracking performance!
