With Monty Python being loved by so many, it takes a company with guts to tackle a musical version of one of their most loved works. The Lamproom Musical Theatre Company had no need to worry. They more than did this hysterically funny show justice.

I did wonder what I'd let myself in for, as the first number saw happy, smiling ensemble members being hit around the face with a giant fish, which they seemed to enjoy. However, any fears I had soon disappeared. The show was wonderful.

From the off the audience loved this laugh a minute production, with wonderful costumes and a simple set which worked well. There were some great performances, particularly from David Cooper who played King Arthur. David was perfect in this role  and his comedy timing was spot on. He sang, acted and rode his invisible horse around the stage like a pro. I also enjoyed the cameo appearance of Paul Pearson as Not Dead Fred. I really enjoyed Lee Caddick's performance as Sir Lancelot, especially his number ' His name is Lancelot' where he was joined by Daren Wild as Prince Hubert. These two were fantastic together and had great chemistry. Credit to Lee for wearing a rather daring costume. However, the night belonged to Lisa Kendall as the Lady of the Lake. From her first entrance to the last, Lisa was every inch the diva, never letting her character slip once. With a powerful voice and commanding presence, this is one performance I won't forget in a hurry. Truly captivating.

The Lamproom doesn't have the biggest stage, but clever direction and choreography made the most of the space available.

Well done to all involved with this production. John and I had a very enjoyable afternoon. Many thanks for your hospitality. Here's to Half A Sixpence.
