Weston Super Mare Operatic Society’s Spamalot is quite probably the finest amateur production I have seen in my 9 years as a NODA Rep.  It doesn’t have to be my favorite show for me to be able to say this; it just simply was a total performance, complete and extraordinary in every sense. Great scenery managed expertly by the stage manager and crew. The fabulous colourful costumes were worn so well by all the cast with period style and pizzazz.  Excellent lighting, great sound… I could hear every word, also grand special effects and makeup, and magnificent props.

Wonderful orchestra (and they were in the pit) with spot on cueing and timing from the multi talented MD Annie Ford, not a wrong note anywhere and wonderful singing from the whole company   Beautifully conceived choreography by Samantha Aylott, with very little in the libretto to guide you, it was masterly.  The subsequent dance routines were executed beautifully by talented, energetic dancers and members of the cast and all the inspired routines were fabulous.

The direction of this show was in the safe hands of an experienced and Monty Python loving master, Ian Doswell. With Ian’s expert touch and a supremely talented cast this show was an utter joy from start to finish. There was not one person on the stage who didn’t give 110% of energy, effort and talent to their (often many) roles. The principals all starred and the company all shone in this gloriously funny, musical romp… what a joy to forget worldly cares and laugh at everyone being so foolish, so silly, so irreverent  and soooooooo good.

This was first rate entertainment and those who didn’t come will never know what they missed … such a shame to see so many empty seats, oh well their loss one might say, but I do hope the society will quickly overcome any adverse financial aspects of the show.

Stand out ‘knock em dead’ performances came  from Graham Kelly, Kevin Wheeler, Leah Farmer, Cameron Isherwood, Rob Tilke and Luke Burgefs… perhaps a little  unfair to mention these few when the whole company contributed to the ‘whole’ as a team, everyone was wonderful.

Was there anything that could have been improved?  Well yes actually ... As far as I was concerned,   just like the song, the show could have gone ‘on and on and on’... I was enjoying it so much!

Well done to everyone in Weston Operatic Society, you deserve all the success that I believe will come your way after this excellent year.
