St Paul’s Drama Group have done it again! They turned a huge traditional musical, South Pacific into a minimalistic concert piece. Directors Keith Jackson and Stephanie Healey moulded a well chosen cast onto the small stage. Music Direction by Irene Gardiner assisted by Peter Bailey, gave a good sound with just two pianos/keyboards. Simple but effective dance moves choreographed by Irene Gardiner and Becky Beaumont.

Nellie Forbush (Kelly Harrington) a good strong voice range. Emile de Becque (Tony Harold) also in fine voice, to match Nellie. Lt Joe Cable (Adam Wigmore) had nice acting ability too, his low register when singing was acceptable but struggled in the higher ranges. Stephanie Healey taking on the iconic part of Bloody Mary did this with class with strong acting and singing. Captain Bracket (John Endicott) a solid role for John.(Derek Elmore) gave us a comical Luther Billis.

These actors were backed up by supporting roles played by: Emma Everett (Liat) and Paul Harris (Commander Harbison). The ensemble of Nurses, Islanders and Sailors gave a nice rounded sound. Costumes were colourful.

Well-done St Paul’s Drama Group for giving your full audience a delightful South Pacific.
