Again the fledgling Muses Theatricals took a challenge, this time in the shape of the South West premier, Soho Cinders a new musical by Stiles and Drew. The story line linked to age old fairy tale twisted into the streets of London’s Soho where Robbie a young man with a romantic heart resides. Robbie has ties to two men, one for financial reasons and no emotion and one he is truly in love with. As with all Cinderella stories obviously there is happy ending.
Characters were nicely drawn by both the youthful and more experienced actors. Robbie showed maturity beyond his years in his pivotal role, performing with deep emotion. His best friend Velco a single Mum who we discover secretly holds an unrequited torch for Robbie was played with panache and provided many of the highlights in this production. She sang with passion and danced with aplomb. The Prince of this tale James Prince the prospective new Major of London was played with deep understanding and his emotional depth especially in the duet Gypsies of the Ether was truly heart felt. The rapport between James and Robbie really helped move the performance forward. All characters gave 150% and the bond between the cast was infectious and the audience could feel the support and enthusiasm. Setting was simple and lighting highly effective. Sound at times was slightly unbalanced but this was possibly due to understanding this new venue’s acoustics, but a great evening of entertainment which was received with much appreciation. Well done Muse’s
