Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs  - Following the traditional story there was a lovely princess who was orphaned and left at the hands of a cruel stepmother.  Unfortunately Snow White’s beauty was perceived to be greater than that of the Queen consequently all the emotions of anger and jealousy pervade the evening, however love wins out and the handsome prince falls in love with Snow White.

The programme was colourful with several local advertisements.  The information was simply presented but the typeface was clear which made it easy to read in the theatre.  The numerous pictures are a great aid to identifying characters. The scenery was simple but very effective – the painting was impressive.  Thought had gone into being able to achieve so many changes of scene as simply as possible. The lighting supported the action well particularly the mirror scenes.  Despite the problems with the microphones the technicians were able to balance the music and the singers. The team had worked hard on the costumes and, in particular, those of Danny Dumpling, Queen Caligula and Black Wing.  The dwarfs were delightful in their striped thigh high socks.  Dame Dolly Dumpling was very well dressed in every detail. Make-up and hair for the cast was well managed.

The fairy team of trainee Fairy Goodheart, played by Alison Heritage and Professor Wonderwings played by Jackie Taylor worked well.  Emily-Rose Taylor played Prince Frederick with style and panache.  She has a pleasant voice and is not afraid to use it. Dolly Dumpling was  portrayed with skill by Brian Drew. Stinkwort and Bowort made a good pair and their mannerisms were particularly good – however they do need to ensure they don’t throw away lines.  Melissa Montagnon as Black Wing was a true pantomime baddy supporting the dominating Queen Caligula played by Claire Lymer.  The timing achieved by the Teddy Bear in the “behind you” scene was spot on.

A great deal of hard work and rehearsal went into this production of Snow White which was thoroughly appreciated by the audience.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this evening’s entertainment.
