A sell out for the complete run this was a different take on the traditional Snow White with several local references in a script by former society member James Last who himself has played the baddy on several occasions.
Georgia Kingston gave us a very likeable Snow White and also showed her talents by playing a lead role in some of the musical numbers. Prince Valentine was Snow White’s suitor and Claire Cooper looked and felt right in this part.
The baddy of the night was Wicked Queen Arachnia, excellently performed by Jade Easom-Samuels. She had loads to do in a quite wordy script and came across well. She was well supported by Tom Holt as her side-kick, Slurp.
The comedy was provided by two of the society’s regulars, Ian Thompson as Dame Delia and Richard Gorton as Muddles. Both worked extremely hard and received considerable backing from a lively audience.
I thought the dwarves were super and all projected their lines well and moved nicely as required.
Another character befriending Snow White was Grandmother Toad, played by Melissa Kay, and also important to the plot were Fiona Wales, behind the Magic Mirror, and Aimee Trewhitt, as the Young Queen.
Musical numbers were kept short, which I like, accompanied by piano and drums, with choreography being good and well performed. Costumes, set and lighting were of a high standard. Although I thought the show was a little long that is just my opinion and the many youngsters in the audience probably would not have agreed with me!
Very enjoyable.
