Although I had performed in a concert at The Mowlem Theatre way back in 1993 ,this was my first visit, to see a performance of a show at this lovely theatre on the Swanage sea front,.
Snow White and the Severn Dwarfs was a very enjoyable and a very entertaining pantomime. It was originally written by , Brian Travers and Pat Jones and newly adapted by Brian Travers with lots of references to the current pandemic. The baddie was Queen Covidia and the comedy double act were Lateral and Flow.
It was a traditional style pantomime with a nice simple set and bright colourful costumes. I thought that it was well cast and everyone was very enthusiastic and well directed. I was pleased to see that the wonderful dame followed the tradition of different costume for every entrance he made,
I am great supporter of live music and not a fan of backing tracks because they can vary so much in standard. I felt some of backing tracks used in this production were not the easiest of tracks to sing to. Unfortunately several times the playback was too loud which meant, sadly, I was unable to hear the ensemble singing for the majority of their musical numbers. However, I thought that all the principal singing was very good throughout, and I particularly enjoyed, “ I Believe My Heart” “ It Feels So Good To Be Bad” and “Single Ladies
Because of Covid19 a lot of regular theatre goers are staying at home, therefore it was not a large audience and they were a little on the quiet side to start with. Initially the cast had to work hard to get them to respond and they were soon well rewarded for their efforts .
Well done to everyone concerned
