This was my fourth pantomime this week so I was almost ‘all pantomimed out’! But CCTC’s music, comedy and high standards ensured I was fully entertained. The entertaining Noda script by Stephen Duckham was well constructed and proved an excellent vehicle for your principal cast members.
The scenery… well designed and painted, fitted with the action and attractive cloths were used for front of stage scenes. Nice props and stage furniture helped the action and the table of Queen Malevolent was a triumph with its green smoke regularly jetting forth. Well done props!
Costumes were good, entirely appropriate and worn well. Lighting and sound were perfectly appropriate and must have worked well as it was completely unobtrusive.
The band played well together and made a good sound, everyone had been well drilled musically so the singing was good. The choice of songs fitted into the story very well. The limited dance was good and the choreographers incorporated the varying abilities very well. The animal scene with Snow White in the wood was charming and the Pointe work of Snow White with the owl was a delight.
Good casting of the principals was integral to this pantomimes success.
Snow White… very young, looked beautiful, sang well and danced excellently, but must learn to control the speed of dialogue which was so fast at times it was indecipherable… demonstrated potential for the future.
Prince Rupert… demonstrated a rather casual (almost throwaway) approach to her role in both dialogue and appearance. You can sing well and with your confidence you were a good companion to Snow White even though considerably older.
Queen Malevolent… a tour de force of a performance most enjoyable, fully in control of the character… very well done.
Dame Do-it-all… showed great promise as a dame and a good attempt for a first performance. Being quite small -be careful not to let wigs and costume swamp your character, try to control slightly strange breathing and take confidence from the audience reaction… you were extremely smiley and likable.
Handy Andy… well what a great surprise… you were amusing, personable and quite prepared to play silly man to the dame- when suddenly we heard you singing… I loved your voice it was mellow and so easy on the ear,. Wisely the directors and MD recognized your singing talent and used it to great effect throughout the show… lovely performance, very well done.
Lord Chamberlain… talented very funny man who knows his stagecraft, worked the audience well although agitated in character never over stepped the role.
Huntsman… This was a very good cameo role, well done.
The Dwarfs… The disproportion in ages and size was used to advantage in providing good clean fun and comedy. They all worked very well together and I’m certain were enjoying themselves, well done
The Company… was well rehearsed and worked together as a team. The younger cast was well disciplined and all looked like they were having a good time, seniors take note… smile for the audience!
Well done directors, chorographers, MD and all the production team. The story was well told and all ended happily ever after.
Your very good family pantomime was well received by the audience and made this Noda Rep smile after a full week of pantomimes.
