With the 3 talented musketeers and the helm yet again we knew that we were in for a treat. The backstory was introduced to us through tableau behind the gauze and then on bounced Fairy Fortune, bright as a rainbow and a lovely up north accent, quite the larger than life poppet that always gives warmth to the heart. This fairy wasn’t just a deliverer of glad tidings she also sang and danced with pizazz. Then onto the evil moments as we are introduced to Queen Averice, a confident experienced actress who totally held her own and worked well with the talking mirror and danced and sang with passion. Comedy was at the fore as it should be in panto with Edna and Chuckles working the audience, a little less of the ‘Oh come on, join in’ approach would have been appropriate here, yes the audience was quiet but we all started to squirm by Act 2. Chuckles had many jokes to deliver and the issue was that they were so fast we missed them…..slow down then we can join in!....The highlight of comedy was through the great double act of Justice Quill and his assistant Scribbles, great timing and delivery, the staged wig mishap was a highlight and it looked so much like a blooper….great idea.
And so on to the title characters. What a perfect Snow White in every way, great rapport with your little folk, lovely vocals and moving like a dream. Now the little folk, all children which some may call a risk but not in this case. Each Dwarf had clear characterisation and vocals and each captured our hearts in some way or other, congratulations you 7 you really made an impact. Other characters were nicely drawn and the dancers and ensemble supported beautifully.
Scenery by Scenic Projects was unobtrusive, colourful and pleasing to the eye. As was the costumes by Triple C. Make up was very effective and wigs were appropriate and well used. Lighting and special effects all brought the piece together with magical sparkle.
A fun filled evening of colour and delight…Thank you Wayfarers.
