Castaway’s pulled out everything in their magical armoury when they presented their production of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ cleverly combining every element expected in a traditional family pantomime, delighting children from 5 to 95! The first musical number ‘Let’s have a party’ was a fun and colourful start, excellent chorus singing and choreographed to showcase everyone on stage. Comedy was supplied in spades! Nurse’s Dotty Dolly (Nick Mountjoy) and Sarah Syrup (Chris White) literally bounced of one another! Their patter and selection of panto jokes were well received by the audience delivering the best medicine, laughter! Bobby (Jack Osmond) the lovable cheeky palace worker had the audience as well as the Maids in Waiting in the palm of is hand!.
Good and evil were served in equal measure by Fairy Rainbow (Rosie Pritchard) she had poise and clear delivery narrating the storyline always accompanied by her colourful Fairies. Carabosse (Kerry Froude) was deliciously evil and created a nasty smell with her little bats! earning her every hiss and boo!. Love interest was provided by Prince (Kate Orwin) and Princess Grace (Lois Froude) and complemented one another, both have lovely singing voices. The company had a good mix of seasoned and new principals each added their own unique talent to the production. The Wow! Factor of the pantomime was the company united singing at the end of Act 1 ‘One Day More’.. Singing throughout was strong with clear diction. Dialogue could have done with a little more pace and light and shade. Choreography had been well tailored to suit all abilities and made good use of stage. Costume was colourful and well selected enhancing the overall production. Congratulations to all who brought this magical work to life.
