Sleeping Beauty and her Prince

This traditional pantomime included rhyming fairies (with some very clever rhymes), amusing topical comments, and appropriate alternate lyrics to various songs. There were also clever extra touches to make the story logical – for instance, why Carabosse’s invitation hadn’t arrived, and why Beauty was visiting the cellar during her birthday party.

Chair Sue Yoxall was scriptwriter, director, stage manager, part of the props and costume teams, one of the principals’ choreographers and the Queen – and baked the cast cakes! The venue was pleasingly full of an appreciative audience; I assume parents who otherwise find very late nights and excited children a difficult combination were very grateful for the sensible timing (6.30pm to just after 8.30pm).
