The Sleeping Beauty can be a weak title due to the awkward explanation of the passing of eighteen years between Scene 1 and Scene 2 and one hundred years between Act 1 and Act 2  but Ben Crocker’s script and Crowthorne Amateur Theatrical Society bold efforts to include a number of classic pantomime comedy routines and some excellent musical choices made this a fast paced entertaining two hours. It had the feel of a strong community inclusive society with some very experienced performers supporting the efforts of the younger less experienced members to create a satisfying whole.

The inclusion of versions of the drill routine, the cake making sketch, a ghost scene, an auditorium chase, and the 12 days of Christmas require good comic timing and stage partnerships and the cast throw themselves into the execution with great gusto although occasionally the comic timing was a fraction slow, they were hugely successful with the audience creating a loud and raucous reaction which added to the atmosphere in the hall.

The music which was pre-recorded was a great selection of tunes that were fun and upbeat and within the  capabilities of the cast together with good choreography  created a joyous and enjoyable entertainment in the true tradition of pantomime.

Great fun to watch .
