It was pleasing that this well rehearsed, excellent pantomime was able to be performed before any further limitations are enforced because of the pandemic. This version of Sleeping Beauty was adapted and re-written by The Chameleons' Chairman. There are several changes from the Disney story, that we know and love, but these are only minor and do enable the writer/director to effectively use more members of this talented company in named roles. The opening chorus welcomed everyone back to the theatre, singing suitably altered lyrics to this first song - a lovely touch. All the essentials of a panto were here. ...Oh Yes they were!! -- the outrageous dame as the good fairy, (sister to) the wicked fairy, Principal Boy, and his side-kick, Principal girl, and her companion, the twin village dunderheads, and the strict parent; along with melodious songs, jolly dance routine, magic moments and an audience participation interlude --- all leading up to the essential happy ending. Just what we needed.
