Sleep no More is billed as a Supernatural Thriller and it certainly is with plenty of twists and turns before it reached a fantastic finale.

This is a play centered around an old theatre which has been in Micky’s family for four generations; he decides to direct a play in the theatre which was written by his grandfather, however his somewhat senile father tells him not to produce this play as it is cursed, something which turns out to be true as the story unfolds.

Sue Cox has to be congratulated on not only directing such a masterpiece but also bringing together such a talented group of actors including two youngsters, both being around 12 years of age.

In the role of Micky, the director, Andrew Hibbert gave a brilliant performance, managing to keep his “limp-wristed character” up all the way through without going over the top at any point.

The actors he brings together, Jenny, Pete and Ben plus Sal as stage manager and part-time actor, initially appear to get on quite well until Pete played expertly by Paul North meets Jenny played to the full by Angela Blackwell meet after 10 years and it transpires Jenny’s son Ben played by Ben Rossiter who although is only around 12 years old, sorry Ben if I got that wrong, was able to give a very professional performance, is actually Pete’s son too. In the part of Sal was Sophie Perez-Smith who gave a sterling performance as the very frustrated girl friend of Pete.

At various parts of the rehearsal for the “play”, Murder by Poison, the father of Micky, William, interrupts the action when he enters the stage either by the auditorium or the wings, he is quite a strange character played with ease by John Castell, to say William is slightly weird is an understatement.

The final character of this piece is Eve who turns out to be the dead sister of William and who died in a tragic accident, here we had 12 year old Ashleigh Andrew who again was able to give am extremely professional performance befitting someone much older than her.

As I said at the start of this review this play has lots of twists and turns but every actor was able to deliver their respective parts with ease to give some very professional performances.

This play had a very minimal set but was very technical lighting and sound effect wise therefore causing the lighting and sound guys to stay on their toes all the way through. Congratulations to everyone involved.
