An impromptu visit to Llanelli took me to see NODA newcomers New Heights Performance Academy and their production of Six – Teen Edition.  It is a specially adapted, teen-friendly edition of the smash-hit musical, Six, that documents the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII in the style of a pop concert.

The production used the smaller, studio space in the Ffrwnes and relied on well- delivered choreography and jazzy lighting to add to the experience for the audience member.

Costumes were well designed and appropriate for each cast member.

The ensemble cast supported the main six queens well with good backing vocals and lots of energy and good reactions.

I was impressed by the six queens.  They worked well together to move the show along at a good pace and created a real party atmosphere for the audience, as well as delivering moments of quieter emotion when required.

Tara Wells had excellent energy as Catherine of Aragon.  She was consistently good throughout the production, moving and singing well.

Anne Boleyn was played by Evie Daniel.  Another strong performance, more than holding her own amongst the others.

Tybie Rutterford had exceptional vocals in ‘Heart of Stone’.  This was one of the highlights of the production for me, and a particular favourite of my eight year old daughter, who had accompanied me for the evening.

Anne of Cleves was played by Maisie Jones.  She was diminutive in stature but really packed a punch.  A good performance with a lot of energy.  Well done.

Esther Thomas-Bizjak was Katherine Howard.  She gave a tremendous performance.  Great character, excellent vocals and movement.  Well delivered from start to finish.  Good job!

As Catherine Parr, Ava Kimber did a good job.  She sang nicely in ‘I don’t need your love’, showing a quiet, emotional side amongst other loud and energetic numbers.  Well played.

Thank you, New Heights, for an entertaining night of theatre.
