This play by Amy Rosenthal has much to say about the complexity of human relationships in their various guises. The first Act concentrates on setting the scene, introducing the characters with a taste of what has gone before, no great depth of characterisation by the actors or thought from the audience. However the second Act is very different as the relationships are laid bare and rebuilt leaving the audience with the feeling that they have a better understanding of the problems being faced by these individuals.
Sarah Cleverley (Nina) and Christine Chafer (Nancy) are excellent as sisters with apparently very different personalities. They are matched by Heather Stotton (Zelda) the young model and latest lover of artist Philip (Mark Hone), outspoken language pouring naturally freom her lips as Philip grapples with 'artist block'. Roger Green has everyone's sympathy as he vainly tries to win Nina's affection. The motley members of the art class, where Nancy 'finds her true self' acting as a life model, provide some comic moments in contrast to the serious issues on view. Well directed, on a split set, the Rep can be very satisfied with this production.
