Designed by the Director, 23 scene changes were managed using appropriate and often highly colourful cyc-projections with very few props, allowing the action to flow speedily. Costumes were superb, shown off by excellent Lighting, adding atmosphere where necessary. Sound was always clear.

The large ensemble of nuns put ‘heart and soul’ into their singing and those, individually named, portrayed diverse characters. Sr.Mary Lazarus (Helen Wilkinson) stood out with down-to-earth comments and gravel voice. Rosemary O’Connor was a joy as childlike Sister Mary Patrick, and Amy’s gradually unfolding confidence as novice Sister Mary Robert was convincing. Supporting roles were undertaken with commitment – Monsignor O’Hara (Harry Stinson), Dolores’ backing singers, featured dancers, barmen, nuns, hookers and chorus. David McDowell played Eddie Souther – understated but surprising in his excellent “I Could be That Guy” extravaganza! Harry Coates, Peter Olphert, Andy Shaw and Adam Goudy were well cast as bad guys Curtis Jackson, Joey, Pablo and TJ. Each showed individual characterisation – the latter three brought the house down with their hilarious “Lady in the Long Black Dress”. As Mother Superior, Una Culkin was totally in control at every appearance, handling her dry one-liners with expert timing. Elaine MacAuley gave an assured performance as central figure Dolores. Confident in song and dialogue, she caught the energy of the role and its sensitivities.

Kerry Dunn directed a fast moving show with well-paced comedy. Ditanya’s well-conceived choreography was full of energy. Terry Cloughley led orchestra and cast with precision. Everyone in the production team and on stage, should be very proud of this joyous show.
