It was great to return to Glantawe and their youth production of Sister Act Jr. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the public performances but very
fortunate to be able to watch their dress rehearsal. Being a show, I know very well, I’d never seen a Jr version and was very pleased that all the big numbers were still there yet still a challenge for the youth performers. Musically the show was very good, led once again by Danni Gravell. It’s not an easy score but these kids gave absolutely everything for the whole performance, which is testament to Danni.

Sophie Kneath played Deloris with the comedic performance required and handled the vocals very well indeed. Officer Eddie Souther needs that goofy,
leading man and Gruff Watkins was excellent. His quick changes on stage were seamless (literally), vocally sound and his timing was spot on.

I often wonder with these Jr versions how things transfer to a younger cast and especially the team of nuns. Unfortunately, the Jr show doesn’t really
showcase each named nun enough in my opinion but the whole team of nuns were great, particularly when the show reached its biggest musical numbers like Raise your Voice, Sunday morning Fever & Take me to Heaven. Well done gang! Callie Williams, who played Sister Mary Robert sang Life I never Led with the gusto & performance needed. Well done Callie!

Curtis played by Olifer Medlicott was a very convincing baddie & his side kicks Joey (Ben Totterdale), TJ (Kai Jones) & Pablo (Joel Jones) were very funny. These roles are not easy and can easily be overdone but they pitched it just right! Well done lads!

Of course, no show is complete without its supporting roles and ensemble. Every single performer on that stage looked like they were having a blast!
Enjoying every minute of a great production.

I was drawn to one specific performance - that of Lola Hopkins who played Mother Superior. Vocally brilliant and for 12 years old I was very impressed
with her overall performance. Definitely one to watch for the future.

I have to congratulate Glantawe for their staging & costume as it can be complicated for sister act, but it all worked really well, even the glitzy changes for the nuns were there.

Directed by Angela Evans & Choreography by Lowri Paynter , Sister Act Jr was a thoroughly enjoyable production which I was delighted to get to see. I’ve heard really good things from the public shows and wish you every success for your next production.
