My first visit to this society and venue, and what a venue, on first view it looked quite spacious, but what a surprise when I went backstage, how this society managed with such a limited space I don’t know.
The production was slick with a functional set that was designed for minimal large changes, congratulations to designer (Vic Atkins) and construction (Henry Messenger and Ben Newman).
Catherine Scott( Sister Mary Clarence) was vivacious and funny, with a suitable “gutsy” voice, Debbie Apollonio (Mother Superior) caring but exasperated, I particularly enjoyed “ I Haven’t Got A Prayer” Anna Cole, a mature performance for a 16yr old, and such emotion put into “The Life I Never Led”.
The Comedy duo of Fiona Porter-Smith( Sister Mary Patrick) and Linda Vickers (Sister Mary Lazarus) had us laughing throughout, as did Neil Clevett, the lovelorn “sweaty Eddie.
The Gangsters led by James Hoare (Curtis) were great fun and I loved “Lady in the Long Black Dress”.
The choreography played to this society’s strengths and suited all ages and abilities.
All in all the show was bright, lively and great fun to watch.
Thank you yet again for your marvellous hospitality, and I hope to see you soon.
