This is the first time I have seen Abbey Players as a company and certainly it is a show that I will remember.

Rachael Clee who played our heroine Deloris Van Cartier led the company. As we all know Deloris witnesses her boyfriend Curtis kill one of his gang members and the police decide to hide her in a convent. Rachael had a wonderful, soulful voice and deserved all the applause that she received. Her rendition of the title song ‘Sister Act’ was a great joy to listen to.
Liz Bevan as the Mother Superior gave a strong performance, as did Catrin Eluned Jones as Sister Mary Patrick. Ann Bradshaw as Sister Mary Lazarus kept the audience laughing with her wit on stage. Jessica Fulham as Sister Mary Robert started off as a young, shy, naive nun who had no confidence until Deloris pushes her to let go at choir practise and that is what Jessica certainly did as from this slight actress came this big, beautiful voice.  Simon John as Monsignor O’Hara gave a strong performance and enjoyed every second that he was on the stage.

Dean Walker as Curtis, who together with Sean Davies, Ben Thomas and Aled Rees made a great team on stage. Ben Thomas played a great part as TJ and his confidence oozed every time he entered onto the stage.
Most of the comedy came from Nick Packer as ‘Sweaty’ Eddie who played the part convincingly.

The set provided by Scenic Projects was very good, the orchestra played well and the costumes that were provided by ACE Theatrical Costumiers were outstanding as always.
This production was of a very high standard and it was a great joy to see an auditorium sold out.

Well done Abbey Players.
