Sister Act is a feel-amazing musical comedy. It tells the hilarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, (Naomi Hurtault) a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent!

Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior (Helen Clarke), Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

Upstagers production (superbly directed by Gill Jackson) oozed with enthusiasm, energy and professionalism from every person on stage right from the start.  It was obvious that the cast have had an absolute ball rehearsing and performing this show.Naomi Hurtault was simply brilliant as Deloris Van Cartier.  This is her first leading role – what an amazing opportunity for her.  Her singing was stunning and all her musical numbers were superbly delivered.

There were so many terrific comedy performances throughout the production – Mother Superior (Helen Clarke) and Monsignor O’Hara (Gary Dearlove) worked brilliantly together.

Curtis (Tom Ramsay), Joey (Matthew McGuire), TJ (Bradley Johnson) and Pablo (Jack Hanson) all had great comic timing, and all of their musical numbers were fantastic.

The “Sisters” Mary Robert (Robyn McIntyre), Mary Patrick (Emma Williams), Mary Lazarus (Kayleigh Newsome), Mary Martin-Of-Tours (Alix Barlow) and Mary Theresa (Emily Carroll) – ably support by the full “bunch of nuns!” - all acted and sang superbly – they were all fantastic individual characters that brought out the whole humour of the piece.

The portrayal of Deloris’s love interest – Officer “Sweaty Eddie” Souther –played by Dalton Wood was a delight.  He captured the extremes of the character brilliantly.  His musical numbers were delivered beautifully and with such comic timing.

This show is full of uplifting music – and this was delivered in abundance under the superb musical direction of Phil Walsh.

The outstanding choreography was by the very talented Matthew McGuire.

The whole production rightly “belonged” in the superb setting of the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford.  This is testimony to the talented company which has been under the “directorship” of Gill Jackson for over 30 years where young performers have been given the opportunity of developing their creative theatrical talents.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this production - costumes, scenery, props, lighting and sound which were all superb.  Everyone contributed massively to this spectacular tribute to the universal power of friendship.

SISTER ACT is a reason to REJOICE!  Thank you for inviting us to “celebrate” with you.
