This is such a ‘happy’ show that one would have to be totally impervious to its charms not to recognise this and the audience certainly showed their support throughout the performance giving the players a real rock of appreciation on which to build.  Together with the accompanying adrenalin from the cast this production was lifted from being just good to being exceptional.  From principals through to the ensemble there was real thought behind each performance which enabled the cast to tell the story with honesty – not just hitting the notes or nailing the choreography.

The principals casting was spot on with everyone giving 110% in energy and concentration. And then there was the ensemble who were outstanding (and I don’t say this lightly).  Each and every one of them was totally ‘in the moment’ no matter what they were required to do.  Each personality was true and consistent.  I don’t think everyone on a stage or in the audience recognises the real importance of the ensemble (or chorus as it used to be known).   They add so much to the truth of the story and create a believable world in which to tell that story.  This was a large ensemble, all in identical costumes but with each of them contributing their own brand of theatricality. Together they provided the love and friendship which transformed Doloris into realising there is so much more to life than fame and fortune.  And when they sang it was absolutely superb!!!  A truly entertaining piece of theatre.
