If I only had one word to sum up the CAOS production of Sister Act, it would have to be joyous. There were
many good things about this show. The set was just right and the lighting plot served to show it off
splendidly. Costumes were spot on and especially effective during the full cast numbers. Scene changes were
smooth and the orchestra led by Steffan Hughes were a joy to listen to alone.
All of the above gave this production a professional feel, but what really made this show joyous was the cast.
Rhian Hiley gave a show stopping performance as Deloris Van Cartier. Rhian was perfectly cast as the street-
wise club singer and not just because of her strong and sassy vocals. Confidence, attitude and great comic
timing really brought Deloris to life and Rhian had me smiling every time she stepped onto the stage. A
lovely performance too from Sarah Kirby as Mother Superior. This is not an easy role to play and I thought
Sarah got the balance just right as the Mother Superior battled with her own beliefs and views of how things
should be done. Some lovely character observations too from Catrin Lewis, Claire Richards, Bridget Radford,
Sara Griffiths and Fiona Rogers as the nuns. It was obvious that a lot of time had been spent developing each
individual’s personality.
Bravo to Oliver John, who played a marvellous Eddie Souther. The whole audience was behind the hapless
Sweaty Eddie right from the start and I especially enjoyed “I Could Be That Guy.” Well done also to Mathew
Tucker as Curtis Jackson and Alfie Evans, Morgan Thomas and Oliver Goulstone as his gang. I did feel things
got a little bit pantomime during some moments with TJ, Joey and Pablo but ten out of ten for enthusiasm! A
nice performance too from Mark Owen as Monsignor O’Hara with some lovely gentle comedic touches.
The ensemble numbers were fabulous. Steve Elias’ choreography was very effective and the whole cast were
obviously well drilled. A great call to invite A Choired Taste choir to share the stage. So many nuns in sparkly
habits was a sight to see and sounded divine!
This production was hugely enjoyable and everyone involved both on stage and behind the scenes deserved
the standing ovation from your audience. Bravo CAOS!
