It would seem to be that 2017 is going to be known as the summer of excellent musical productions, each that left me with that wow factor at the end of the evening. Wimborne Musical Society made a bold decision to move from their traditional show week in June to August so they could secure the performing rights for Sister Act. A move that was certainly well made.
“Sister Act” was an excellent production, and in my opinion, without a doubt, their best production for several years and judging by the size and response of the Friday night audience it was certainly well received. This show is all about the singing Nuns and the vocal ability of the ladies chorus .Sharon Pearcy as Delores Van Cartier, made the role her own with an absolutely outstanding performance and she was supported by an excellent team of Nuns with very enthusiastic performances and superb singing, a great credit to the Director and Musical Director.
Whilst the story line seems to centre on Delores and the Sisters we tend to forget about the male roles in the production. I thought that the characterisations of Monsigor O’Hara, Eddie and Curtis were all very good and Miles Bailey-Breandgaard stood out from the crowd and shone in the minor role of TJ.
Unfortunately the theatre technical team took a bit of shine off this otherwise excellent production during the second act. One or two sound cues missed and there was also a couple of slow lighting cues which seem to leave cast members stranded on stage. However, I am sure it was unnoticed by most of the audience who had clearly been enthralled by this wonderful feel good production as they left the theatre.
