Never to run away from a challenge Wellington Op Soc decided that rain was on the menu for 2014 and rain it did. The big number in the show didn’t disappoint as rain clouds gathered and Don Lockwood got a soaking. Visually pleasing with good chorus vocals the production moved along nicely, with more technical wizardry in the black and white movies causing great hilarity. The principals complimented each other admirably, Don had done his homework and his portrayal was crisp and clear with tuneful vocals and some nice soft shoe, unfortunately the specialist flooring for the rain scene soaked up the sound of the taps which cheated us of the sound of his tip tapping! or anyone else’s for that matter. The crazy capers of his best bud Cosmo kept the audience in stitches. Don’s love interest Kathy Sheldon was sweetly played, vocally strong and danced beautifully, Don and Kathy’s duets were a highlight. But star of the night must go to the lovely Lina, a giggle a minute and looking every inch the star she was portraying, her ‘What’s wrong with me’ was just perfect. Everyone was having great fun onstage and their enthusiasm rolled through the audience like a wave, a fun evening’s entertainment that was certainly worth the risk.
