SILHOUETTE by Simon Brett is a modern, mystery thriller concerning the murder of a well known actor, Martin Powell.  It is set in the country home of the actor and his estranged wife in West Sussex in the 1990s.    The first half of the action centres on the discovery of the body and suspicion falls on the wife, so we think we know who did it.   But it can’t be that simple, can it?   In the second half there is a reconstruction of the events leading up to the murder – and the twist.

The open set inspired conversations amongst the audience of the theatrical aspects of the production.  The home was realistically created with great attention to detail with theatrical props, weapons and posters.  The set was tastefully decorated and the props were well used by the cast.  The lighting was excellent, especially the silhouette effect.

The talent of the actors resounded throughout this excellent production.  Robert Whitehead, Caroline Martin and Brian Gillett particularly are to be commended for simultaneously and confidently delivering lines while handling props including forensic gloves, guns and knives.   This was a clever and intriguing story that kept us entertained and interested and was well acted by the whole cast. The twist at the end might not have been evident to everyone due to the location of the tape recorder showing that it was still switched on while the murderer boastfully confessed.   Congratulations to the production team led by Roy Glancey and Mandy Larby for a fantastic show.
