It’s quite a challenge to direct a musical as well known and popular as Shrek ensuring that all the well-loved aspects of the show are there, whilst making it your own. Judging by the enthusiasm of the audience Cath and her team certainly delivered this family favourite. They enabled the cast to work together to develop a team of actors who collectively brought energy and enthusiasm to the Hexagon stage. It was clear that Cath had worked hard with the cast to develop their characterisations and the principals in the most part created believable performances with good interactions and relationships.
The lead actors created believable performances of the iconic characters with lots of recognisable characteristics. The quality of singing in this show was excellent and as always, and the group delivered some lovely harmonies and accomplished musical performances. Each of the musical numbers had been well developed and the cast gave splendid performances. The chorography worked with the style of the songs, and in the big group numbers the cast had mastered all the dance steps performing them with energy and enthusiasm. In the smaller group numbers, there was some loss of timing and synchronicity, but this did not detract from the overall performance
